Costs and fees

The first thing anyone who needs a lawyer wants to know is how much it will cost. It is a reasonable question and it deserves an answer from the outset, not once the matter is already under way.

Here we explain how we work: when you will know the cost, how it is paid and what happens if the matter does not succeed.

The first consultation is free

We study your case, explain your options and tell you frankly whether it is worth taking action. No obligation and no cost.

You can have it in person in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, by phone or by video call.

In complex matters a first consultation may not be enough to give you a definitive answer. If so, we will tell you and propose a preliminary study, with a quote before we start it.

A written quote before we act

Before any work begins, you know what the engagement includes and what it costs. We do not start anything until it has been agreed and set out in writing in the letter of engagement.

If something arises during the matter that changes the agreed scope, we discuss it with you first, not afterwards.

Flexible payment

Cost should not be the reason someone gives up defending their rights. We look for an arrangement you can manage.

In most matters the fee is split into instalments linked to the milestones of the proceedings: one part when you engage us, another when the claim is filed and the last before the hearing. This way the outlay follows the progress of the work instead of being concentrated at the start.

If a different schedule suits you better, we can talk about it.

Mixed arrangements for money claims

When there is an amount to claim, for example after a dismissal, in a debt claim or for compensation, a fixed part payable in any event can be combined with a part linked to the outcome.

The two balance each other: the larger the fixed part you take on at the start, the lower the percentage of whatever is recovered. We propose several combinations and you choose the one that best fits your situation.

If the matter does not succeed, the variable part is not payable: your cost is limited to the fixed part you chose.

Expenses at cost

Some matters involve expenses that are not fees: an expert report, a court fee, a land registry extract. Whenever one is needed, we check with you first and it is invoiced at cost, with no margin on our part.

Frequently asked questions

Nothing. It is free and without obligation: we study your case, explain the options and tell you the applicable fees before you commit to anything.

We agree it with you before we start and it is set out in writing in the letter of engagement. In most matters the fee is split into instalments linked to the progress of the proceedings.

Yes. The usual split is linked to the milestones of the proceedings, so that the outlay follows the work. If you need a different schedule, we can look at it.

In matters where part of the fee is linked to the outcome, that part is not payable: the cost is limited to the agreed fixed part. Expenses already incurred, such as experts or court fees, are invoiced, always at cost and after checking with you first.
